Walks

A scenic view of a green meadow surrounded by trees, with a fence in the foreground and a lake partially visible in the background under a blue sky with white clouds.

Located in the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, visitors to the Old Vine are spoiled for choice when it comes to beautiful walks.

With our large pub car park, we’re an ideal start and end point for a local walk. Stay a while to rest and recharge, whether you’re on a hike with a local group, or just out walking the dog.

Check out this walking route, mapped out in detail especially for us. This approximately 1 hour (2 mile) circular route, from the Old Vine to the shore of Bewl Water lake, takes in public footpaths with sweeping scenic views, quiet country lanes, and part of the Bewl Water trails through shady woods by the lake. This route map includes directions and photos (click on the waypoints).

Or if you’re feeling adventurous, take on the whole Bewl Water circular route!

Local Points of Interest

Multiple small sailboats with white sails on a calm body of water under a blue sky with scattered clouds.
A scenic view of a castle and a smaller stone building surrounded by trees and green grass.

The Old Vine pub is located close to Bewl Water, a multipurpose park with water activities such as fishing, swimming and watersports, as well as a host of other activities for all ages and interests.

The beautiful Scotney Castle, a National Trust property including the castle, mansion, gardens and bookshop, is less than a 10-minute drive away.

Also around a 10-minute drive away from the Old Vine is Bedgebury Pinetum and Forest, a magnificent location for walks, and home to the largest collection of conifer trees in the world. And for the kids (or kids at heart), try their Go Ape treetop walks and ziplines.

Spend the day at these beautiful local attractions, then stop in at the Old Vine for lunch or dinner and tell us all about your adventures!
